The Financial Fence® - setting a vision

One of the reasons why people become disillusioned and depressed is that they have no vision for what life might be like in future. Many people I come across have only a very fuzzy idea of what it will be like and no real idea how to get there particularly with their finances.
There is a famous saying "If you don't know where you're going, any road will get you there." This is very true when it comes to your finances. You can remain as an "urban subsistence farmer", living from one pay packet to the next. As soon as the money comes in, it goes out again. This can feel as though you're on a treadmill with no real way to get off and this is often the case if you have succumbed to some instant gratification and achieved that with the use of consumer debt.
There is a way of dealing with all this.
Ask three questions:
1. Where am I? (Try and be as honest as you can)
2. Where do I want to be? (Try and be as specific as you can)
3. Now I can get a plan to get there (Try and be as realistic as you can)

These three statements work for finances because "where you are" and "where you want to be" are what's called Balance Sheets. "A plan to get there" is both an Income Statement and Cash Flow.
In The Financial Fence® we call them Milestones and Activity and we can build an integrated picture of your finances.
